Climate Change post

In reading this term our focus has been looking at articles around climate change.

I have have learned that burning fossil fuel is bad because it is releasing gases in to the air which is creating green house gases which is not good for our earth!

New words:

Green house gases are realised in to the air only when fossil fuels get burnt.

Fossil fuel when burnt becomes green house gases.

Trees give us oxygen which makes us live.

cross country epic........

Thursday cross country was hmm let's just say hard because not just because we had to run 2 laps around a park but because we had to wait 2 hours until our race 2 whole hours of sitting there doing nothing but wait but in the end we had fun and i placed 10th so i was quite proud of anyway that 2 hours waiting was just evil because most of us didn't even bring something like a card game  so that was my opinion on cross country 2019

PBL - Term 1

This term our Project Based Learning (PBL) has been about kindness and the big question was: How can we build community through our actions?

First, we explored some collaborative activities and discussed how we could include kindness and build a sense of community through our actions at camp. Next, we were organised into groups where we had to unpack the above question. In our groups we considered how we could spread community and kindness through our entire school community. We decided that we would offer something that was free and would make others happy.

We created an action plan and our topic was painting rocks and putting love hearts on them and the idea was to hide them but in the ended we end up chucking  them everywhere because we had no time to do it and a surprising amount of people looked for them witch was pretty epic

Reflection:
For our final product our group at the start of the day we had to ask the teachers in our hubs if we could do this. next we had to wait the day and at the end of the 1st day we hid them and some people could not find them that meant some people were disappointed watch was bad so of the 2nd day we chucked them everywhere and that was better because people could find them on the ground

How our action build a sense of community in the school is that we made peoples day cause some one might have had a bad day and they were walking alone and found one of the rocks that would have made their day

I contributed by painting the rocks and hiding them. I also even came up with the idea of painting rocks

I think the PBL might impact on others by making people thinking about how lucky we are to have a wonderful community.

What I learned about working with others was if one person is talking before you talk wait until they have finished before you can talk.

PBL Market Day

This term our Project Based Learning (PBL) has been about design and the
big question was; How can we use a Steam approach to make a marketable product?

First we learned what STEAM stood for.

S for Science

T for Technology

E for Engineering

A for the Arts

and M for Maths

Then we were given challenges. The first to make a chair using newspaper,
string and straws that was able to hold a figure made out of multi-link blocks.

Then; make a table that was able to balance MnMs for the team. We were
much better at the second challenge because  we made
is super stable

In Literacy we learned to write up science experiments and to write a technology
report using the design process of ask, imagine, plan, create, improve and share.

Our next step was to form teams and ask ourselves the big question again.

How can we use a Steam approach to make a marketable product? Our aim was to
create enough products or experiences and sell it to raise money for charity.

My highlight from this PBL was  the market because we got to walk around and see what other people did for pbl

This term our Project Based Learning (PBL) has been about cultural stories and the big question was;

What is the significance in the 21st Century of our Cultural stories?

First we brainstormed what culture is and came up with lots of ideas Culture is where you are from
and stories

Then we thought about our own culture and talked to our parents about our traditions and heritage.
I wrote a post about my family and things we like to do.

In Literacy we read and discussed myths and legends from around the world then we concentrated
on Maori legends. I read battle of the mountains Maori and the sun I have made a legend i called it
the dream eater.

We made a performance about the story Battle of the Mountains. Some students wrote the script,
some students took on the job of making all the artwork, some worked hard on organising the music
and others took on the role of bringing the story alive with dance and drama.

Reflection:

For our production I contributed by… a dancing bush

I think the show might impact on others by...by how much effort we put in to the costumes

What I learned about working with others was the teamwork we did on the artwork
